Travel Grants
The 301st Council Meeting established the principle that student travel grants have the objective of encouraging students to disseminate their research. Applicants for a student travel bursary must normally have been a member of the Society for 9 months, may be working worldwide and
presenting research at a conference, by paper or poster. The grant will be made on receipt of a report on the event.
The British Society of Rheology wishes to establish a transparent mechanism for the award of travel bursaries and to solicit applications from its student membership. Travel bursaries are available to student members of the Society to present their research at a conference that contains a strong rheological element, in situations where no other sources of funding are available to cover the whole cost of the meeting. Suitable conferences include the International Congress of Rheology, the Annual European Rheology Conference and conferences organized by the Society.
The closing dates for consideration of the award of a travel bursary are usually 31st March and 31st October with successful applicants notified by 30th April and 30th November, respectively. For Spring 2010, the deadline is 26th March. Applicants should include in their submission the name and location of the conference, the title, authors and abstract of the paper submitted to the conference, a breakdown of the projected costs of attending the meeting and a supporting letter from their research supervisor. The support of the British Society of Rheology should be mentioned in the conference presentation.
The Society's logo may be used for this purpose. Payment of the bursary will be made on receipt of a report on the conference. The conference report will be published in the Bulletin of the Society.
Applications for a travel bursary should be sent to the Secretary (secretary@bsr.org.uk).
